Easy Super Smooth Cake Pop Dough

FAIL PROOF VANILLA CAKE POP DOUGH

See Reel  Here

Ingredients:

  • 1 box Dolly Parton Vanilla Cake Mix (or similar white/yellow cake mix)
  • 4 eggs
  • 1 (8 oz) cup sour cream
  • 1 box instant Jell-O pudding mix (vanilla)
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 tsp vanilla (optional)
  • Pre-cut parchment paper sheets (optional but handy)
  • Foil
  • 9x13" pan

Instructions:

  • Preheat oven to 350°F.
  • Line a 9" x 13" pan with parchment paper (no not oil paper).
  • Mix all ingredients with a mixer until smooth.
  • Pour into pan and spread evenly.
  • Bake about 10 minutes longer than the box suggests (the pudding mix makes it denser). Cover with foil the last 10 minutes.
  • Do not overbake. If you have a cake thermometer you will want to take your cake out when it has reached 210°.
  • Let cool for 10 minutes, then cover with foil or a dish towel.
  • While still warm and moist, crumble cake back into the mixer and blend into dough. (It may feel a little sticky at first but will settle into a play-dough consistency once cooled.)
  • Wrap dough in parchment paper and place inside a zip-top bag or airtight container.
  • Dough can be refrigerated overnight or frozen for later use.
  • Once cool, your dough is ready to roll into pops!

I made this recipe, but I have a couple questions. Your cake pop balls are all one color with no darker pieces and they are so smooth. Mine did not come out all one color and smooth. Is there something else you do to get them to look that way. Also, what is your trick to getting smooth not too thick melted chocolate for dipping. I tried Wilton’s and the Merkens, I added some shortening to thin it out but still had issues.

How long does it need to be covered after the 10 minutes.
